Eliza is a widow. Her husband, Marshall was killed from an IED Blast. Beckett is a Montgomery. They are friends. He saved her from a handsy bar patron, by pretending to be her date/boyfriend. Eliza finds out Marshall cheated with his high school girlfriend, and they had a daughter. Her inlaws are needing money to help with their granddaughter. They want the money Eliza got from the army from his death. To give to the granddaughter that their son had with another woman while married to Eliza. She is very upset, realizing she can't get closure because Marshall can't defend himself. Beckett was a victim of a shooting, he saw a friend die in front of him. He has some PTSD, and while out with his brothers, has a panic attack after hearing what sounded like gunshots. His friend, Lee, the only one who knew, tells his Brothers. Beckett and Eliza meet up because they go out of town to regroup, and they end up at the same resort, with next door rooms. They start dating, and having relations when they return home. A few months go by. They are having lunch when there is an accident. Beckett is hurt, Eliza, Benjamin (twin), and Brenna (best friend) have some cuts and scrapes. The say 3 words to each other while he is in the hospital right after the accident.
