My Guest Review Post from books-n-kisses.com- Susan Mallery, THREE SISTERS

Susan Mallery’s newest novel, “Three Sisters”, is the second in her newest series, Blackberry Island. It follows the first in the series “Barefoot Season”. This is about 3 women and their families who live in the 3 Queen Anne Victorian houses on the island. Andi buys the 3rd house, to turn the bottom part into a pediatric office, and she will live upstairs.
Next door is Deanna, a wife and mother of 5 daughters. She accuses her husband of having an affair, and he assures her that he is not cheating on her. She is obsessive-compulsive, she washes her hands so much, that she is embarrassed to shake Andi’s hand when she talks to her for the second time, and she hides it in her sleeve. The first time she meets Andi, she is rude. She feels that her daughters do not appreciate her, she always sees the daughters yelling that “Daddy is home”, but she never gets the same treatment. I did not like Deanna at the beginning of the book, but luckily she matures and changes throughout the novel. We learn about why Deanna acts the way she does, and why she washes her hands so much.
Finally, we have Boston, who married her high school sweetheart, but they do not have any children. Unfortunately, they had a son, who passed away at only 6 months old. Boston spends her days painting, and drawing pictures of her son, eating, sleeping, anything her beautiful baby did, or did not get to do, due to his short life. Boston’s husband spends his time away from home, trying to drown his sorrows in a bottle. At the end of the book, Susan gives us a lovely meeting between Boston and her husband where they talk about what happened, and eventually they help each other get through their grief.
Andi meets Wade, who will be her contractor. Wade is the Brother-in-Law of Boston. He will tear apart the first floor of her house, and turn it into a beautiful pediatric office. Andi also commissions Boston to paint a mural to make the kids feel more excited than scared to be at the doctor. Susan describes an amazing jungle scene, which I for one, really wanted to see in paint, besides what I painted in my head.
Andi also spends some time with a few of Deanna’s daughters. She invites them over for lemonade and cookies, and one day Boston visits, and spends that afternoon drawing the children, and their cat.
Deanna talks to Andi about her OCD, and Andi gives her the name of a psychiatrist, and convinces her to go for an appointment. Deanna does go for the appointment, and by the end of the book, she is a lot nicer than she was at the beginning. She also talks more to her daughters, and instead of yelling at them like she did in the beginning of the book, she listens to them and talks in a calm manner.
We also get to see Michelle and Carly from the first book, when Deanna goes to apply for a job at their bed-and-breakfast. We do not get to catch up with them; we are mainly with Deanna when she meets them for her interview.
This is just another amazing Susan Mallery novel, She writes amazing characters with sad, happy, and sometimes tragic back stories, but at the end of each novel, she gives them hope, love, and great friends. I for one cannot wait for the next Blackberry Island novel.
On the plus side, on susanmallery.com, she has a calendar on the left side of the page, which gives us some save-the-dates for some of her upcoming novels. Also visit blackberryisland.susanmallery.com, for a Blackberry Island map, and a visitor’s guide, and also recipes.
Also see foolsgold.ca.susanmallery.com, for her Fools Gold series, which at the end of July of this year, will have released 12 full length novels, and some e-novellas.

Sand Castle Bay by Sherryl Woods

Emily left home years ago to move to L.A. to become an interior designer. She states that she makes a lot of money doing this, and she loves it. We get to glimpse at some of the designs she does, and Sherryl gives us some scenes of the interiors that she decorates. Emily broke Boone's heart when she left him, but Boone got married and had a son. Unfortunately, he lost his wife and has their 8 year old son. Boone is a restaurant owner, he owns 3 restaurants. Emily comes home when a storm hits her hometown, and does some damage to her Grandmother's restaurant. She meets up with Boone, and meets his son, who starts to like her. He even gives her ideas for using colors in her designs at a hotel in Aspen, which she does use!

The only thing I didn't like in the book was that we didn't get to see how she said goodbye to Boone, and what happened immediately after. I thought that Boone jumped into bed with Emily too soon, especially after we find out he loved Emily since she left, and shared his heart with the 2 women, but they do eventually work it out in the end, when Emily decides she does want to be with Boone instead of advancing her career in L.A.

Great book about first loves, and how no matter what happens, they can come full circle, and be together again.

Uncommon Pleasure by Anne Calhoun

** spoiler alert ** Great book. The only bad part of course was the book just wasn't long enough. I know they are short stories of course, but I really would have liked to learn more about the characters and their back stories. In the first story, "Over the Edge". He had first met Lauren when they were both on an off shore oil rig, but we never heard how they interacted on there. We mostly learned about them when they were sleeping together. In the second story, "All on the Line". Sean and Abby had dated before and then when he was deployed so he broke it off with her to concentrate on his men and his job. The sex scenes were great. Both stories included a threesome, which I for one really enjoy. In both stores they had great chemistry between the characters. They were very in love with each other even before they admitted it to each other. This is one great author.(less)

Any Duchess will do by Tessa Dare

I won a copy of this in a giveaway. It is an uncorrected proof, so some details may change. I loved the book. Of course, I already knew he would end up loving her in the end, that's how all the books end. But I ended up loving the characters. Pauline was hilarious trying to be a terrible duchess and everyone ended up loving her, and Griff loved her the most of course.

Truth and Roses by Inglath Cooper

My sister won this on a giveaway. I actually got to read it before her. I thought it was a great book, the characters had growth and development. The secrets they kept were life changing in a way. I like how the book ended also.
Can't wait to read more by this author.

The Nine Lives of Christmas by Sheila Roberts

CONTAINS SPOILERS !

OMG I love this book, and I haven't even finished it.  I love cats, I am a total cat person all the way, I do love dogs also but I will choose to be a crazy cat lady any day of the week!  All I need is a farm with lots of barns and I can have cats.

So on to the book - Reading the inside cover I have to say I thought the book would be different, but I am pleasantly surprised that it was ! I thought the book would be about Zach, the guy who got the cat, but it is actually more of a viewpoint of the cat, and what he sees at Zach's house.  Ambrose, whom Zach calls Tom, because he is a tom-cat, is on his 9th life, which he wants to spend out in a loving home, with food and warmth for the rest of his last life.  He does give us some insight into the losses of his other lives, and who he saw on those times. I recommend this to all the cat lovers out there, and those who think they do not like cats, I believe it would turn you into a believer !

Big thumbs up to Sheila Roberts for this funny, and heart-warming story for the Christmas Holidays !
